Exploring Stripes

November 3rd, 2006

Some of my upcoming projects might be using Stripes, so I put together a simple application in an attempt to learn the major concepts behind it. Overall, I’m very impressed with Stripes. Validation is simple and doesn’t have any surprises, and the same can be said for state management.

I hate to do something for nothing, so you can see the demo Stripes application I put together here.

Eventful - A New Product Offering

November 1st, 2006

I’ve been working on a new product offering, called Eventful, for the past year or so. I wanted to take the knowledge gathered over years of writing event management software and make it available to the general public, and make it affordable. Some competitors in this space are very expensive (CVent) or feature-poor (CVent again, as well as Acteva).

Eventful enters public beta soon, but I’m always interested in what the developer community thinks of new applications.

For technologies, it uses Wicket, Spring and Hibernate, with MySQL as the underlying database. Reports are created with JasperReports (since I’m co-authoring the JasperReports book).
