One of the more confusing pieces of Struts is form validation when using the Commons Validator. (For the uninitiated, the validator allows you to define your validation rules in an XML file for both client and server-side validation.) A new wiki has been created to support documenting this beast, and it can be found at: http://nagoya.apache.org/wiki/apachewiki.cgi?ValidatorProjectPages.
I’m also working on a short article on using property files with Struts, since that seems to throw people just getting started with webapps in general, and Struts specifically. Should be done in about a week.

In my current quest to at least reduce and hopefully eliminate having to boot into Windows on my laptop, I’ve been using DIA as a replacement for Visio. I have to admit that, dispite quirks, I quite like it. It’s currently being used to create flow diagrams for the web application that I’m working on, so the usage is light. Some of the features that I’d like to see are:
- The ability to set the fonts for all of the elements in a diagram. Currently, you have to set the font for each element individually. This can be a pain.
- Copying large diagrams in their entirety. I get an error when I try to do this now.
That’s it. I’m sure other things will come to mind as I continue to use DIA, but it meets my immediate needs.

As you can probably tell, some updates have been made the the System Mobile website. We’re trying to move towards a more dynamic site to allow us to communicate with our customers and interested parties. Please feel free to contact us with suggestions about how we can improve it.
A new version of StrutsDoc will be released shortly. The major feature will be supporting the Struts Validator configuration files, and probably a handful of fixes and UI improvements.
